PCOS AWARENESS
IN THE PHILIPPINES

PCOS public awareness is necessary because more than half of the 10,000,000 people who have it are unaware of it.
Awareness educates the public on the importance of seeking medical attention for early basis symptoms such as irregular periods and pelvic pain. While there is no cure for PCOS, there are treatments available to help alleviate the stress and complications associated with specific symptoms (PCOS Awareness Association).
4.5 million Filipina women are diagnosed with PCOS which contributes to infertility in the Philippines.
Despite the prevalence of this condition worldwide, PCOS is still being overlooked due to the commonality of the symptoms among women.

There are not many publicly available records on PCOS statistics as DOH Epidemiology currently does not compile any data related to the condition.
Health Literacy in the Philippines has the lowest rate of 23.9%, additionally, it is clear that there is a lack of progress when it comes to making wise health decisions, and not to mention the absence of awareness of hormonal disorders makes it even more concerning.
